JOB PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Department Head, support the overall mission of the library by effectively providing library services to patrons.

Essential Job Duties:
1. Deliver exceptional customer service in a variety of formats.
2. Serve as primary point of contact for customers at service desks.
3. Provide customer-focused reference and reader’s advisory services to customers.
4. Provide basic technology assistance for in-house and customer owned devices within current library guidelines.
5. Provide basic technology support on downloading/streaming services provided by the library.
6. May provide basic assistance on social media applications.
7. Actively promote library services, material circulation, and programs to customers.
8. Ensure all policies and procedures of the Barrington Area Library are followed.
9. Maintain expertise by continual learning activities such as reading professional literature, and watching webinars and online training videos.
10. Serve on planning committees and attend library meetings as requested.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

• Experience with adult literature.
• Experience with Microsoft Office software.
• Experience with customer interactions in a group and\or individual setting.
• Familiarity with current and emerging technology and social media.
• Ability to work rotating and various work shifts including evenings and weekends.
• Ability to travel locally.

Education and/or Other Requirements:
• Completion of a bachelor’s degree.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Proficiency with trending social media applications.
• Proficiency with the Internet, e-books, personal devices, and emerging technologies.

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to see, walk, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, stand, talk and hear on a frequent basis.
• Physical dexterity to reach shelves of various heights and to guide customers throughout the library.
• Ability to push full carts and lift materials as needed.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate fluently in English.
• Dexterity to perform data entry on a computer, laptop, iPad, or other electronic device.
• Visual acuity sufficient to read print in 8 point font.
