JOB PURPOSE:
The Materials Services Department is responsible for the efficient and accurate maintenance and delivery of the library’s physical collections for customer and staff use. The Material Services Outreach Associate is responsible for delivering and retrieving materials throughout our library district by delivery van.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Accurately delivers materials to remote lockers, schools, and community organizations, and picks up materials from the Library’s remote drop boxes and community partners.
  2. Performs or assists Material Services Associates with the fulfillment of holds; assists with materials that require special handling; troubleshoots problems that arise with items and customer accounts.
  3. Effectively uses library technology, such as the RFID sorter and the Polaris catalog, to maintain the circulation of materials through check-in and check-out procedures.
  4. Assists with maintenance of remotely-located equipment and the Library delivery van.
  5. Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers through effective communication and cross-departmental collaboration; assists with cross-departmental training of new staff.
  6. Ensures all policies of the Barrington Area Library are followed; appropriately interprets procedures and policies to resolve problems that are within the scope of the position.

  1. Proficiency with technologies required to perform the essential duties.
  2. Strong collaborative skills with both the Material Services team and other departments.
  3. Ability to frequently work independently and execute good judgment while out in the field.
  4. Strong knowledge of departmental procedures, including the fulfillment of materials to customers.
  5. Dependability to provide exceptional customer service as defined by the Library.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have and retain a valid driver’s license and state minimum vehicle insurance coverage.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Work experience in providing customer service and using independent judgement is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Able to:

  1. Perform duties outdoors in all weather conditions regularly.
  2. Drive and operate a large vehicle regularly.
  3. Frequently see, walk, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear.
  4. Utilize physical dexterity to reach shelves of various heights, push heavy carts, and lift heavy containers (up to 40 pounds) daily.
  5. Utilize basic mechanical tools and equipment to perform duties occasionally.
  6. Read, write and communicate fluently in English.
  7. Utilize dexterity to perform data entry on a computer, laptop, iPad, or other electronic device.
  8. Utilize visual acuity sufficient to read print in 10 point font.
