Alexia Rzadkowski

Alexia Rzadkowski is a senior at Barrington High School where she participates in Project Lead the Way. She has accrued more than 90 volunteer hours at the Barrington Area Library where she helps patrons with 3-D printing. She hopes to pursue her interest in a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) related field when she graduates high school.

Ara Bonsignore

Ara Bonsignore has been building with LEGOs for over a decade. Among his favorite things to build are vehicles, especially military vehicles. He has been inspired by Pierre E. Fieschi's work on freighters and other large LEGO starships, and Nathan Sawaya's LEGO art series. His work has been displayed at the Algonquin Area Public Library. His favorite LEGO technique is Studs Not on Top.

Karen Plummer

Karen Plummer studied art at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She got her start as an artist with a class at Kaleidoscope and applies the techniques she learned there to paint silk scarves. Her work has been exhibited and sold in London and the United States, notably at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Her work can be worn or turned into wall hangings.

Robo Rebels First LEGO League ® Team

The Robo Rebels, an award-winning First LEGO League ® robotics team based in Palatine, will be here to share their passion and skills.

First LEGO League ® introduces young people, ages 9 to 14, to the fun and excitement of science and technology while building self-confidence, knowledge, and valuable employment and life skills. This year’s challenge asked kids to identify a problem with the way we make or handle trash, design an innovative solution to the problem, and share the problem and solution with others. The Robo Rebels will talk about their research and solution for minimizing food waste, and demonstrate the robot program that they developed for the FLL competition, for which they won several awards in January 2016. 

Tamara Tabel

Tamara Tabel is a poet, copywriter, and novelist. Her poem “Arbeit Macht Frei: Dachau 2012” was awarded the Silver Prize in the Journal of Modern Poetry 15 and also appeared in Poetica Magazine’s Holocaust Edition 2014. Her poems have been included in JOMP 16, JOMP 17 and JOMP 18; A Midnight Snack, by Poetic License Press; and in Quintessential Barrington magazine. She is hard at work on an historical novel series set in 1918 Chicago and Mississippi dealing with the issue of race.

Susan Smith

Susan Smith is the Executive Director/Instructor at Kaleidoscope School of Fine Art. She currently works with senior centers as part of the Kaleidoscope outreach program. Prior to her current role, Susan worked for the past 16 years as a freelance artist and part-time art instructor for Kaleidoscope and at local libraries, businesses, churches, homeschool groups, private school and Illinois Youth Corrections- Warrenville as a volunteer instructor.
