The Barrington Area Library is recruiting for a part-time Customer Service Associate to serve as the first point of contact at our service desk. This means everything from greeting people with a smile as they enter our building to resolving account issues and helping users navigate Library resources. Part-Time Assistant Librarian: Youth Services

The Barrington Area Library is looking for an energetic, customer service-oriented team player to contribute to our dynamic Youth Services department. This staff member will: connect customers to the library’s materials and services; collaborate with other staff to plan and present programs (such as technology classes and story times); and provide an amazing library experience to every customer, especially children from birth to eighth grade and their caregivers.

Requirements and Skills:
This position requires completion of a bachelor’s degree. Hours, Salary, and Benefits:
The schedule for this position averages 20 hours per week and includes day, evening, and weekend shifts. The salary is $18.91 per hour. This position includes participation in the IMRF retirement plan, and earns vacation, sick, and holiday benefits.

Part-Time IT Help Desk

The Barrington Area Library is looking for a part-time IT help desk team member to assist staff with technology. This position offers a variety of responsibilities in a busy and innovative library.

This team member will:
➠ serve as first point of contact for staff on IT issues,
➠ communicate effectively with staff while troubleshooting,
➠ participate in projects such as updating software and replacing hardware within the Library, and
➠ provide 1-1 instruction on technology to staff as needed.

About you:
➠ You excel at providing customer service.
➠ You have relevant knowledge of and experience with PC and Mac systems, along with Microsoft Server and Office products.
➠ You're motivated by the opportunity to help others.

Salary & Benefits: The salary range is $18.00 - $27.02 per hour. Benefits are not included with this position. Flexibility in scheduling is required for all staff.

Summer Volunteer Opportunities

Gain volunteer skills within our nationally-recognized public library, while earning volunteer hours needed for a club, badge, or application. Read the descriptions below, then follow the application instructions. Apply today for a great summer volunteer experience!

1) Summer Reading (June – August) Teen Volunteers

Shifts: Monday – Friday
Time slots: 10 AM – 12 PM OR 1 – 3 PM OR 3 – 5 PM

Multiple opportunities! Create buttons on our button maker to play an important role in our season-long Summer Reading event.

Consider this volunteer opportunity if you:
➠ are a Barrington 220 student entering grades 9 – 12,
➠ will commit to a minimum of 10 (two-hour) work shifts or more, and
➠ have experience with or just enjoy assisting children and adults.

2) Creator Fair (Saturday, August 3, 2019)

This one-day-only event has multiple volunteer opportunities both indoors and outdoors (weather permitting). Commitment is 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM. Both students entering grades 9 – 12 in fall 2019 and adults are encouraged to apply.

We need your help with the following activities:
➠Ice Cream Social Bar
➠Slime Bar
➠Popcorn Stand
➠Crafting Table

We need additional volunteers to:
➠Greet and direct participants
➠Set up and take down, prep and clean up

The Adult Services department is looking for volunteers to scan microfilm and digitize historic local newspapers. If you are a history buff, this might be the project for you.
