Real Escapes: International Realism Cityscapes and Landscapes showcases Joy Appenzeller Bauer’s multifaceted visual world in oils. In a traditional realistic style, Joy paints her impressions of the international cities she visits and photographs. By combining detailed architectural and landscape perspective with subjective nuances of atmosphere, color, light, and mood, she creates her own version of realism-impressionism.
Joy Appenzeller Bauer graduated from Barrington High School and attended the prestigious School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1995 where she refined traditional French impressionism and urban realism oil painting techniques. After art school, she focused on commissioned portraits for over fifteen years while working in advertising/corporate communications and earning an MBA. As a senior manager, she travelled around the world and built up a repertoire of reference photography. She now concentrates mostly on landscapes and cityscapes, capturing the character and atmosphere of each traveled location.

The Committee's goal is to give local artists the opportunity to present new work in a public setting and encourages all artists in the Barrington area and surrounding communities to apply.
