PFC Herbert F Augenstein

Herbert Franklin Augenstein was born October 19, 1894 in Ela Township, to Charles and Carrie Elfrink Augenstein.

Augenstein enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 28, 1917 to serve in World War I, and was assigned to Company D, 132nd Infantry Regiment. This Regiment participated in the Battle of Hamel, the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, and the Sommes Offensive. He was honorably discharged on May 30, 1919 as a Private First Class.

He held a variety of jobs in his life : silo builder, factory laborer, and landscaper. He was member of the American Legion.

Private First Class Herbert Augenstein died June 10, 1958 at Hines VA Hospital. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
