PVT Elmer Zapletal

1927 – 1961

Elmer Zapletal was born January 29, 1930 [tombstone error] in Chicago.

 

Zapletal served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1950 in the Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 228th Infantry. He was discharged under honorable conditions as a Private, and continued service in the Illinois National Guard through 1951.

 

Professionally, he was employed as a moving man; later, he operated a rubbish removal service and lived in Cary.

 

Private Elmer Zapletal died April 27, 1961 in Broadview and is buried in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
