Welcome! We’re happy that you’re considering volunteering to serve our community.
The Barrington Area Library provides a variety of service opportunities, available to teens and adults, with differing skill levels. We offer one-time volunteer programs, or ongoing volunteer opportunities, such as:

- supporting special events such as BALibrary Fandom Fest, Creator Fair, and Local Flavors Food Exposition;
- assisting with our summer reading program;
- digitizing our local history collection;
- sorting and packaging of seeds for the Seed Library;
- and more, depending on the Library’s needs!
Anyone interested in volunteering must complete a Volunteer Application. Volunteer applicants 18 years of age and older must consent to a criminal background check to be considered for volunteer participation.
While we accept volunteer applications from students who are 14-17 years of age, not all volunteer opportunities are available to those under 18 years of age. All applicants under 18 years of age must have a parent/guardian signature of approval on the application.
Once the application and background check (for those 18 years and older) are processed, individuals are eligible to volunteer and contact information is added to our volunteer database. While we try to place as many volunteers as possible, depending on the needs of the Library, we cannot guarantee volunteer opportunities.
Current Volunteer Opportunities:
KPop Demon Hunters Party
Friday, May 1, 6-8 PM
We’re planning a high-energy celebration inspired by the hit film KPop Demon Hunters, and we’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help make the night unforgettable. We are currently seeking volunteers to serve as:
- Greeters
- Line Managers
- Craft Assistants
- Refreshment Assistants
KPop is short for Korean pop music: high-energy girl groups and boy bands (imagine the Spice Girls or NSYNC, turned up to eleven!). It’s hugely popular worldwide and the movie KPop Demon Hunters is one of the most popular movies on Netflix. It’s an animated adventure about a girl group who secretly fights demons to save the world. It’s action-packed, funny, dramatic, and beloved by kids and teens.
Our party blends fandom fun and community spirit, along with:
- Korean-themed airbrush tattoos
- KPop dance instruction and performance
- Photo ops with cutouts of the movie characters
- A sing-a-along
- Light-up wand craft, sticker craft, and knotted bracelet craft
- Light refreshments
- Possibly a scavenger hunt!
The Korean Cultural Commission will be enhancing the celebration with additional crafts, dancing, and other activities.
We hope you’ll consider joining us to help bring the magic to life! Please download our volunteer application and then email it to volunteer@balibrary.org. Volunteers should arrive 15 minutes before their shift for a brief overview of their tasks and assignments for the evening.
