In 1970, the Barrington Area Library joined with 13 other libraries to allow reciprocal borrowing - cardholders from the 13 libraries were able to borrow books from any of the other participating libraries. At the same time, the Library joined a film lending program, making more than 800 educational films available for loan to area groups. We've been known as an innovative and forward-thinking library for a very long time!
On August 13, 1970, voters passed a referendum approving the annexation of an outlying area into the Library district, making a large district even bigger.
