John Anton Benson was born in Barrington on July 12, 1944, to Anton F. and Hazel Schlorff Benson.

After graduation from Barrington High School, Benson served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1967. He operated and maintained radar sets aboard the USS Macdonough, and attained the rank of Radarman, third class.

After his honorable discharge, Benson was a roofing contractor for many years, then a custodian for the Barrington School District working primarily at Prairie Middle School.

In later years, he relocated to Lake Zurich, where he enjoyed landscaping, reading, and spending time with his extended family.

RD3 John A. Benson passed away April 29, 2020 in Barrington, and is buried with his parents in Evergreen Cemetery.
