Edward James "Ed" Down was born February 24, 1947, in Port Huron, Michigan to Neil E. and Edna Uphouse Down.

 

Down graduated from Port Huron High School, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967 during the Vietnam War; he graduated with honors from the U.S. Army Signal School.

 

He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of Michigan, Dearborn.

 

Down married Lucy Irsheins on September 2, 1982, in Lake County; they raised two children.

 

He made a living as the Regional Sales Manager for Trimble Navigation.

 

Down enjoyed reading, woodworking and was an active member of the Buehler YMCA in Palatine.

 

Specialist 5th Class Ed Down passed away on August 18, 2002 at his Barrington home, and is buried at Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
