Gilbert Lawrence Haines was born December 9, 1944 in Woodbury, New Jersey, to George H. and Katherine Kuntzman Haines.
He attended Germantown Academy and Temple University, before serving in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class.
Haines married Carla M. Franzen of Elgin on August 30, 1968. They raised three children in Illinois and California, where he worked in the information technology industry.
HM3 Gilbert Haines died in San Tan, Arizona on June 20, 2013, and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
