Andrew Frank Kostick was born June 19, 1929, in Chicago, to Louis and Mary (Kaminitsky) Kostik.
He was on the U.S. swimming and diving teams and earned the championship for fancy diving in Berlin in 1952. He graduated in 1957 from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science, before serving with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War.
Following the receipt of his Master's Degree from Southern Illinois University in 1960, Kostik became a Physical Education teacher at Barrington High School where he started the gymnastics program and retired 32 years later. He was inducted into the BHS Coaches Hall of Fame in 1995 and the Illinois Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2008. Kostik was a longtime member of the Illinois High School Gymnastics Coaches Association which honored him for his "untiring effort ... to make great strides in the sport of gymnastics."
Kostik and his wife Diane (neé McNanna) raised a son and daughter in Barrington.
He was a life member of VFW Post 7706 and the National Education Association.
PFC Kostik passed away Thursday, October 14, 2010, at his Barrington home, and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
