Robert Talamantez was born March 2, 1937 in Chicago.

He grew up in Compton, California, and entered the U.S. Marine Corps in August, 1955, right after he graduated from Compton Senior High School. During his 6 years of service, Talamantez served in the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, San Diego, the 2st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company in Oahu, and the 1st Battalion Marine Corps Supply Center, Barstow, California. He was honorably discharged September 22, 1961 as a Lance Corporal.

On October 1, 1958, Talamantez married Joan Von Druska in Orr, Minnesota; they raised two children in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.

He was employed as a supervisor at General Electric Company in Rolling Meadows.

LCPL Robert Talamantez died August 14, 1974 in Elgin, and is buried in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
