Thomas How Welch, Jr. was born on December 8, 1918 in Minneapolis to Thomas and Frances Young Welch.
Welch was a graduate of Shattuck Military Academy and attended the University of Minnesota.
In Minneapolis, on April 15, 1941, he married Ann Patricia Hanley of Wilmette, IL; they raised two children in California.
Welch entered World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps on December 1, 1942, and served as an Intelligence officer in England. He was honorably discharged as a Major two years later.
He worked as a Sales & Advertising Executive for the Hearst Corporation for 42 years.
The family moved to Barrington in the mid-1970’s, and during his time in Barrington, Welch was very active with St. Anne Parish. Upon his retirement, he volunteered with the Executive Corps to assist non-profit organizations with fundraising and marketing efforts.
Major Tom Welch died March 22, 2010 in his Barrington home, and is buried with his wife at Evergreen Cemetery.
