Richard Herbert "Dick" Glantz was born June 2, 1922, in Burlington, Iowa, to David and Pearl Eklund Glantz.

In 1942, Glanz joined the Quaker Oats Company, working through management positions of increasing responsibility in plants located in Iowa, Nebraska, and New Jersey, and corporate offices in Illinois. He retired as a Senior Vice President after 44 years.

Glantz entered military service for World War II the day after Christmas, 1942, and served with the 363rd Engineer Special Service Regiment. There were only a few of these Regiments in WWII; they were formed early in the war to build infrastructure and facilities, prepare for future troop deployments, and maintain routes of communication. Tech Sergeant Glantz was honorably discharged on December 30, 1945.

On February 3, 1948 Glantz married Billie Jo Morris in Cook Co; they raised two children.

Glantz chaired church committees, supported Little League, and served as a Village Trustee in Arlington Heights. Through the years he was active in the Elks and Masons and the Republican Party.  After retirement, he became Chairman of the American Humane Society.

He developed a passion for horse racing, both as an "investor" and owner for over 20 years, and spent many afternoons at Arlington Park after a morning round of golf. He served on the Board of Barrington Hills Country Club and Mariner Sands Country Club in Stuart, Florida, where he had a second home.

TSGT Richard Glanz passed away peacefully March 12, 2012, in Barrington, and is buried with his wife in Evergreen Cemetery.
