Leroy Walter Grever was born October 1, 1924 in Ela Township, one of eleven children born to  Herman and Emma Hapke Grever.

 

Grever enlisted for service in the U.S. Army on April 19, 1943, and was honorably discharged as a Private First Class on April 14, 1946.

 

On December 6, 1947, Grever married Wanda Olszewski in Barrington; they raised three children.

 

Grever was employed by the Lake County sheriff’s department for 23 years.

 

PFC Leroy Grever died on June 11, 1974 in Lake Zurich, and is buried with other family members in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
