Robert F. Kroc was born September 9, 1924 in Chicago to Lada and Emily Gallow Kroc.

Kroc enlisted for service in World War II with the U.S. Navy on May 25, 1942. He was a Veteran of the D-Day invasion, the Omaha Beach landing, and North Africa and Sicily campaigns. He received two Purple Heart medals while serving as a Motor Machinist’s Mate Second Class responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing various mechanical systems and machinery aboard U.S. Navy ships. Kroc was honorably discharged on January 9, 1946.

On November 8, 1947, he married Selma “Sally” Wendt in Chicago; they raised two children.

Professionally, Kroc was an electrician with Gurtz Electric for many years.

He was a life member of VFW Post 7706, and American Legion Post 158. He was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, and enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and bowling.

Motor Machinist’s Mate Second Class Robert Kroc died December 22, 1999 in Barrington, and is buried with his wife in Evergreen Cemetery.
