Murray J. Kurland was born on November 23, 1928 in New York City, the son of Max and Rosita Bassatt Kurland.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from May 1, 1946 until his honorable discharge as a Seaman Second Class, then attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1952.
Kurland began his career with A-P Controls, where he met his wife, Alice “Addie” Larsen, and they were married in Milwaukee on August 7, 1954. They raised six children in Palatine.
Later, he was invited to join S&C Electric in Chicago, where he spent the majority of his career as a salesman, ultimately retiring as Senior Vice President of International Sales.
Kurland was very generous with family and friends, and sociable with all he met. He was renowned for his brightly colored and patterned attire that often reflected the colors of his favorite sports teams – the Green Bay Packers and the UW Badgers. He was a charter member of the Boulder Ridge Country Club, which became a haven for Kurland and his sons, and eventually his grandsons.
S2 Murray Kurland passed away peacefully at his Palatine home on February 29, 2016, and is buried with his wife at Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
