Frederick William Bock was born on April 8, 1925 in Chicago to Frederick P. and Charlotte Limberger Bock.

He graduated from Lane Tech in 1942, then entered military duty for World War II, and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the 767th Bomb Squadron and 461st Bomb Squadron as a radio operator/mechanic/gunner.

On July 23, 1949, Bock married Shirley Ann Drabick in Chicago. Their first home in Barrington, Illinois was built with the help of family and friends, and they raised seven children there.

Bock worked in the construction trade as a laborer, carpenter, and superintendent for Coath & Goss. He helped build many schools in the area and many other homes in his community.

When he retired in 1980, Bock became a tree farmer in Ironwood, Michigan for half of each year. Through his 97th year, he planted hundreds of seedlings there annually to replace the trees that he had used throughout his career in construction.

He was an avid hunter and a dedicated fisherman, and enjoyed sharing these sports with his children and grandchildren. He read books, magazines, and several newspapers daily, and was a storyteller with an unbelievable imagination and a great sense of humor.

Veteran Frederick Bock passed away on June 20, 2025, surrounded by his family, and is buried at Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
