Richard Rudolph Gruebnau was born Feb 28, 1908, in Chicago to Rudolph and Louise Nordmeyer Gruebnau.

Gruebnau was a lifelong resident of Lake Zurich, providing support for his widowed mother until his marriage.

He enlisted for service in the U.S. Navy on May 2, 1942, and was honorably discharged on October 29, 1945 as a Machinist Mate First Class.

Erna Pohlman of Mount Prospect became his wife on September 17, 1957 in Mt. Prospect.

After farming in his early years, Gruebnau retired as a carpenter, and was a member of Carpenters Union 201414 in Barrington, the VFW Post in Barrington, and Lake Zurich American Legion Post 964.

MM1 Richard Grubnau died June 26, 1980 in Arlington Heights, and is buried with his wife in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
