Leslie Arthur Nelson was born February 20, 1897 in Chicago, to John and Alvina Metler Nelson.
Nelson married Esther Lois Gibson on October 6, 1921 in Chicago; they had three children and lived near Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he was a car inspector and repairman for Grand Trunk Railroad. They divorced there in 1938.
Nelson served in World War II from October 9, 1942 to Aug 18, 1943; his assignment and rank are unknown.
After the war, he worked for the Chicago &Northwestern Railroad as a car inspector, then as a farm hand for James McGraw, and finally, as an Electrical Engineer for Aeroquip Corporation’s Barco Division. He lived in the Barrington area for 30 years.
On July 3, 1952, Nelson was married to widow Grace McGraw Jacobson.
Veteran Leslie Nelson died September 6, 1975 in Elgin, and is buried with his wife in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
