John Otis Robertson was born September 2, 1897 in Barrington to Albert L. & Maud Otis Robertson.

He joined the U.S. Army on August 8, 1917, and served in the 92nd Aero Squadron, attached to the British Royal Flying Corps (RFC) for training and familiarization in the UK before being posted to France in July, 1918. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal on December 28, 1918.  

After the war, Robertson worked in administrative roles and for his father’s bank.

Robertson married Virginia Fontaine on March 25, 1922 in Fullerton, California. They parted before 1930 with no known children. He married his second wife, Dorothy Beatrice McCauley in Humboldt, Iowa on June 25, 1932; they had two children.

Professionally, Robertson sold real estate in the Barrington area, where he was a 50-year member of Lounsbury Lodge A.F. & A.M. #751 and a member of American Legion Post 158. He was an avid flyer, whose original pilot licenses were signed by Orville Wright.

He joined the military again in World War II as an Air Force Flight instructor from 1942 to 1946.

CPL John Robertson died February 13, 1986 in Barrington, and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
