Darrell Robert Sanders was born August 27, 1910 in Bonaparte, Iowa to Noah and Harriet Cummings Sanders.

He grew up in Chillicothe, Illinois, and moved with his family to Barrington in 1928.

On August 27, 1932, Sanders married Hazel DeBolt in Barrington.

Sanders was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of World War II, entering the military on November 26, 1943. He saw service in Iwo Jima, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki, and was honorably discharged as a Corporal on January 9, 1946.

He was employed by the Jewel Company for 30 years, and moved to Arizona in 1973 after retiring.

He was a member of the VFW Post 7006 and the Elks Lodge.

CPL Darrell Sanders died on September 19, 1981 in Phoenix, Arizona, and is buried with his wife in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
