George John Hager was born June 22, 1924 in Barrington, to Irving and Irene Meiners Hager.
Before the war, Hager worked at the firm founded by his namesake grandfather, Hager Lumber Company.
Hager was a proud World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving from July, 1943, until his honorable discharge in March, 1946.
After graduating from University of Illinois – Chicago, he married Frances Plagge on June 19, 1948 in Barrington; they raised three children.
He received his Master’s degree at Northern Illinois University, and taught Marketing at the College of DuPage. After his retirement, he assisted his son at Hager’s Country Market in Barrington.
Hager was the first Eagle Scout in Barrington, a volunteer fireman and paramedic. He was a very active member of Salem United Methodist Church, and enjoyed sailing, camping, bike riding and running.
Veteran George J. Hager, 92, of Barrington passed away peacefully on June 18, 2017, and is buried with his wife in Evergreen Cemetery.
