Carl Friedrich Albert Hardtke was born Oct 4, 1890, in Chicago to Albert F. and Adeline Mielke Hardtke. 


Hardtke worked as a pipefitter before entering military service for World War I. He served in the U.S. Navy from May 14, 1918 until his honorable discharge as a Shipfitter Second Class September 30, 1921. 


In December of 1923, Hardtke married Karoline Maria Schneberger; they raised three children in Arlington Heights before her death in 1949.  His second wife was Helen Jurs, married on May 3, 1950 in Lake County, Indiana; they had one daughter.  


Professionally, Hardtke was a Heating Contractor, known for his work on the heating system of the Drake Hotel. He served as Chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee for Arlington Heights Public Schools in the late 1930s, and was a member of American Legion Post 208 in Arlington Heights.


SF2 Charlie Hardtke died June 26, 1982 in Park Ridge, and is buried with his wife Caroline in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
