Porter Walton “Pat” Jarratt, Jr. was born January 17, 1923 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Pat and Marybelle Hale Jarratt. 


He graduated from Central High School and entered the engineering program at the University of Oklahoma, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma. 


While a student, Jarratt joined ROTC on November 23, 1942 as an aviation cadet. He served in U.S. Navy Air Squadron 462 whose purpose was to train pilots to replace those lost in combat.

 

Jarratt received his wings on March 31, 1945 and was promoted to Ensign; his unit was deactivated on December 10, 1945. He remained in the Reserves, where he was assigned the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade on July 16, 1948.


On November 4, 1945, Jarratt married Nancy Adams in Norman, Oklahoma; they raised 3 children.


Professionally, he worked in oil and gas refining. In the 1950’s and early 1960’s he worked in Kansas as a Mechanical Engineer and Beaumont, Texas as a Chemical Engineer. The family moved to Palatine in 1966 when Jarratt joined Chemplex, a start-up polyethylene and plastics producer, as Vice President of Manufacturing. He retired in 1984, following the purchase of the firm.

 
He served the Village of Inverness as a Trustee and District 15 as a literacy tutor, while enjoying a round of golf in his spare time.


LTJG Pat Jarratt died July 26, 1997 in his Inverness home, and is buried with his wife in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
