Walter Henry Meyer was born April 6, 1907 in Barrington, the son of Henry and Ida Rohlmeier Meyer.


On October 27, 1934, Meyer married Linda Ann Mass in Barrington; they raised one child.


He was called to duty for World War II, and served in the U.S. Navy from April 10, 1944, and was discharged as a Fireman First Class on December 10, 1945.


Meyer worked a variety of jobs before he served in the Navy: mason, salesman, trucker. After the war, he worked for 26 years in maintenance for Commonwealth Edison.


He was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, and a member of Barrington American Legion Post 158.


Walter Meyer died April 1, in Elgin, and is buried in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
