Ray Albert Wichman was born in Barrington on October 6, 1909 to Edmund F. and Anna Krueger Wichman.
Wichman graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1933, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, earned Major Letters for baseball, and captained the Badger basketball team.
He was already serving as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Ordinance Division at Fort Jackson, South Carolina when he was married to Margaret Brooks in Ann Arbor, Michigan on February 27, 1943. He reported for combat duty on November 21, 1943, and was discharged on April 11, 1946.
Wichman and his wife raised three children in Barrington, where he was active in Scouting and American Legion Baseball.
He was an owner-broker of Wichman Insurance in Barrington, where he was very active in civic affairs: Barrington Township assessor for 30 years, past commander of American Legion Post 158, past President of the Barrington Lions Club, and a member of VFW Post 7706, the Lounsbury Masonic Lodge, and the Medinah Shriners.
LT Ray Wichman died August 17, 1993 in Barrington, and is buried with his wife and other family members at Evergreen Cemetery.
