Arthur Seymour Calkins was born November 23, 1889 in Menominee, Michigan to Judd and Ella Bjarnesson Calkins.

Calkins entered into service for World War I on September 19, 1917, and was honorably discharged on May 19, 1919 as a Private First Class. He served in the U.S. Army’s 126 Field Hospital 32nd Division, which was often used for treating specialized cases, including gas victims and other casualties.

He married widow Lillian Stolz Falkinburg in February of 1925; she had one child.

Calkins was a tractor salesman in Racine before establishing himself as a building excavation contractor in Barrington.

PFC Arthur Calkins died July 21, 1952, and is buried with his family in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
