Arthur Frederick Conrad was born on July 31, 1918 in Chicago to Wilhelm and Frieda Bock Conrad.
After high school, Conrad was employed in advertising as a commercial artist.
On June 15, 1940, he married Marjorie Kemper in Barrington; they had five children, and raised three to adulthood.
Conrad was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy from September 25, 1942 until October 1, 1945.
He owned Conrad’s Variety Store in Barrington in the 1940’s and 1950’s, and was active in civic affairs, as a Trustee on the Village Board, as the first commander of VFW Post #7706, and as the first president of the Association of Congress in Barrington.
After retiring in 1961, the Conrads moved to West Covina, California, and became active in the Amway marketing network. In 1969, they relocated to St Petersburg, Florida.
Seaman Arthur Conrad died June 14, 1991 in Pinellas Park, Florida, and is buried with his wife in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
