Sigmund Lockauskis was born April 18, 1916 in Chicago to Sigmont and Monika Kliknike Lockauskis (also recorded as Leikovski, name changed to “Lakes” with naturalization).

On October 3, 1942, he married Lorene Landwer of Barrington in Portland, Oregon; they raised two children in Barrington.

Lakes entered into World War II military service on November 26, 1942, and served in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge as a Private First Class on March 25, 1944.

He owned Lake Supply Company, a farm equipment company in Barrington, and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.

PFC Sig Lakes died April 5, 1991 at his winter residence in Pinellas Park, Florida, and is buried with his wife in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
