Michael Peter Eleftheriou was born Michalakis Petrou Eleftheriou in Larnaca, Cyprus on August 4, 1935.

He immigrated to the U.S. in 1952 and was naturalized in 1957.

Eleftheriou served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division – Screaming Eagles.

He married Eva Arnold on September 17, 1960; they raised three children.

Eleftheriou was a member of Masonic Constellation Lodge 974 and Shriners. He was a devoted member of St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, and as sponsor to many young Cypriot men who immigrated to the United States.

Michael Eleftheriou died in Palatine on May 1, 2018, but lived on in the kidney he donated to his daughter. He is buried in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
