Donald Edward Owens was born November 9, 1925 in Wayne County, Michigan, to Edward and Minnie De Ruscha Owens.
Owens enlisted in the U.S. Navy for service in World War II on July 19, 1944. He served as an Electrician’s Mate Third Class on repair ships in the Pacific Theater until his honorable discharge on June 2, 1946.
He returned from the war to attend Michigan State University, where he graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation, he joined Anaconda Wire and Cable in Marion, Indiana, where he progressed through managerial ranks in manufacturing locations including Illinois, Georgia, New York, and Kentucky over his 30-year career.
On June 14, 1958, Owens married Nona Arnoldi in Lincolnwood, Illinois; they raised five children before retiring to the Barrington area.
EM3 Donald Owens passed away April 7, 2017 in Barrington, and is buried with his wife in Evergreen Cemetery there.
