Lt Col Frederic C. Coltrin

Frederic Charles Coltrin was born August 1, 1903 in Chicago to Dr. Charles W. and Lotta Castle Coltrin.
A gifted lineman at Austin High School, Coltrin was named to the Tribune’s All-City High School Football team in 1922 at left guard. He went on to play for University of California - Berkeley as an offensive lineman, and was team Captain in 1927, playing tackle and nicknamed “Fritz.” Once graduated, he was appointed assistant coach at UC Berkely, then, assistant coach at the University of Nevada.
He married Susan Seager Hood in Reno, Nevada on February 12, 1936; they divorced in 1959. His second wife was Christiane Mugler.
Coltrin entered the securities industry in 1935, and was working for BankAmerica in San Francisco when he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on May 11, 1942 during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
After the war, he resumed his financial career as Vice President of First California Company in Southern California. In 1958, Coltrin returned to San Francisco and became Vice President and General Sales Manager of Hugh W. Long and Anchor Company. He remained at this mutual fund underwriter firm until his retirement in 1968.
Lt Col Fred Coltrin died in San Francisco on November 25, 1992, and is buried with his Veteran brothers and parents in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
