Robert Alexander Sweeney was born January 10, 1918 in Evanston to Clarence and Viola Flume Sweeney.
He graduated with honors from Loyola University in 1939, then served as a Captain in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Military Police Corps from 1941 to 1952.
He received his J.D. from John Marshall School of Law (now UIC Law) in 1950.
On June 11, 1947, he married Eleanor A. Perlack; they raised two children in Barrington.
He was a Circuit Court Judge for more than 30 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Illinois Bar Association and the Nordic Law Club of Chicago.
The Honorable Robert Sweeney died March 28, 1997 in Arlington Heights, and is buried with his wife and daughter in Evergreen Cemetery.
